Argentina Power Cord Standards

Argentina Power Cords, Electrical Plug, Flexible Cable, Sockets Standard Argentina IRAM 2063/2073 (Argentinian 10 A/250 V) and compatible types (Type I),connected with athree-wire earthed plug rated at 10 A (or 20A), 250 V defined by IRAM and used in Class 1 applications in Argentina.This plug is similar in appearance to the Australasian and Chinese plugs. The plug and socket used in Class 1 applications in Argentina is defined by IRAM. The applicable standards are: IRAM 2063/2073 “Two poles plugs with earthing contact for domestic and similar purposes, rated 10 A and 20 A, 250 V a.c.” and IRAM 2071 “Two pole socket – outlets with earthing contact for 10 A and 20 A, 250 V a.c, for fixed installations. ” It is similar in appearance to the Australasian and Chinese plugs. The pin length is same as the Chinese version. The most important difference from the Australian plug is that the Argentinian plug is wired with the line and neutral contacts reversed.

IRAM is the National Standardization Body of Argentina and also operates as a Certification Body for Products, Services, Quality Systems and Environmental Management.
In respect to cords, plugs and couplers for household electrical appliances the applicable standards are:

  • IRAM 2006 for the general requirements for plugs and socket-outlets.
  • IRAM 2063 for the particular requirements for two poles plugs without earthing contact, rated 10 A – 250 V a.c., for domestic purposes.
  • IRAM 2073 for the particular requirements for two poles plugs with earthing contact, rated 10 A and 20 A – 250 V a.c., for domestic purposes.
    IRAM 2158 for PVC power cords.
  • IRAM 2188 for rubber power cords.
  • IEC 320 for appliances couplers.

In order to give you a general overview of our national standards related to the items mentioned above, I can comment you the following:

  • General requirements specified in IRAM 2006 are in-line with those prescribed in IEC 884-1.
  • The main dimensions and shapes of Argentinean plugs according to IRAM standards 2063 & 2073 are shown in the attached drawings.
  • Standardized cords according to IRAM 2158 and IRAM 2188 are similar to those specified in IEC 227 and IEC 245.

IEC 60320 Connectors

IEC 60320 power cables come in normal and high-temperature variants, as well as various rated currents. The connectors have slightly different shapes to ensure that it is not possible to substitute a cable with a lower temperature or current rating, but that it is possible to use an overrated cable. Cords also have different types of exterior jackets available to accommodate environmental variables such as moisture, temperature, oils, sunlight, flexibility, and heavy wear.
